The Weekly Dump 9.28.18

Well, the UCSC caravan of new and returning students (and their parents) descended on Santa Cruz last week, bringing the unofficial end of summer home. That didn’t stop the loco though! This week, we had the food fight in the church parking lot that escalated quickly, we had another false alarm that locked down a local school, we had the story nobody heard about (as usual), why people don’t shop downtown anymore, suspicious fire torches rental cars across the street from SCPD main station, just our daily car thief arrested in Santa Cruz, identity thief busted in Soquel, hand grenade found in local landfill, city council shuts down alternative transportation options, deputy t-bones thief in stolen truck, move your junker next time, good times with local addicts, Red tagged, El Circo del Ayuntamiento, the Weekly Seen, and maybe more!

Last week was short, this week is long, go figure! It’s the rollercoaster nature of Santa Cruz. This week, we’ve got five years of status quo failure in five minutes, lower Ocean shut down over false alarm, child ejected in rollover crash on Highway 1, a bunch of burglaries and probation failures, the effect of vagrant recidivism on downtown merchants, just what I expectorated, Aptos woman sentenced for DUI death, flipping the city the Bird, mail thieves busted in Soquel, talk like a pirate day, El Circo del Ayuntamiento, and more!

It’s kind of a short dump this week. Life just got in the way a little too much this week for yours truly, and I skipped the complete carnival of a city council meeting so anyone can feel free to give their perspective on that in the comments. Meanwhile, what I do have for you is the Aptos guy thrilled to be going to prison for the rest of his life, a runaway kid found in a stolen car, a couple of stabbings, stolen gun pulled on neighbor, flash in the can, El Circo del Ayuntamiento covers the SCN forum, and a couple other things.

Ok, I’ll come clean and admit it. I’m the anonymous op/ed writer in the NYT piece. Closer to home, time again for my weekly news and views dump. This week, we had some kind of incident involving Concord police making a high risk traffic stop (and getting hit by a car), a carjacker was arrested on Soquel sitting in the car he jacked, Capitola man barricades himself, tragic accident in Ben Lomond, jaywalker hit by car on Ocean, Ranger Danger gets his man, Motivated to fight, woman punched in the face at Bonesios, meth makes you do dumb things, keeping Santa Cruz weird, wildfire at Ocean and Highway 1, prowler on Frederick, not in their back yard, park and deal, Joe nails it again, the return of The Dumpster Report, El Circo del Ayuntamiento, help change the city charter, Bite Me!, the Weekly Seen, and more.
