Beach…beach…..the beach is back! With thanks to Mary from NextDoor and apologies to Elton John, we got our Main Beach back this week, no thanks to soon to be recalled Drew Glover. In other stuff, a guy got shot in the ear with a pellet gun downtown, a guy with a gun was reported seen near the Pogonip, the pool is closed, women brawlers, burglar arrested downtown, getting in the zone, sleeping car thief busted, a couple of bumfights, tourist arrested for rape and attempted homicide, the usual Friday night downtown, batteries not included, updates on the recall petition signature drive, weekly shoutouts and thanks, and more!

Another very busy week in the land of the Holy Cross, but it’s not all bad news! I’ve got at least 3 fun, free things to do this weekend! But before I get there, we gotta drive through some mud, and did you know that now that summer is over, the city manager and the chief of police said it’s ok to camp for free on Main Beach! Talk about rolling out the welcome mat! We also mourn the loss of our friends and neighbors in the tragic dive boat fire in Southern California. We’ve got what seems like a weekly shooting, this time along Highway 9, we’ve got a human dumpster fire on Jessie Street, a Dominican nursing assistant charged with sexual assault, a child is abandoned after the parents beat each other up downtown, Camp Bernal rises from the ashes and sets a tree on fire, the gift that keeps on giving, SCPD actually arrests a drug dealer, Aptos man creates chaos in Oakland, home invasion burglary broken up by SCPD, Aptos woman charged with assault with a deadly weapon, Pono gets their door smashed in again, Watsonville man arrested for sexual assault, porta-potty torched near Emeline, teen gang member arrested, Duke goes for a spin, thief steals gun from parked car, district elections, Kevin Vogel on Common Sense, where to sign the recall petitions this weekend, Santa Cruz Greek Festival, Mole and Mariachi Festival, and mimes take over San Lorenzo Park this weekend. This week, we’ve got an extradited murder suspect sitting in Santa Cruz county jail, we had a woman who was run over near Cedar and Maple streets, we’ve got a serial recidivist who nearly killed himself after he stole and crashed and burned a Parks and Rec truck, we’ve got a guy arrested 91 times locally who died of a heart attack, we’ve got someone hit in the head with a hatchet, an east cliff burglar busted, stealing your face, SCPD is picking up bum trash again, picking up low hanging fruit, someone needs a Lyft, the usual bad behavior downtown, Santa Cruz United for change on the city council, and local company Looker gets bought by Google for more than 2 BILLION dollars.
