The Weekly Dump 5.29.20

As the rest of the country seems to fall apart, some of us living in the Land of the Holy Cross are thankful for the relative calm here. But we’re never boring! This week, we’re talking about the latest coronavirus restrictions, a wanted suspect for attempted murder was picked up on B40, robbery is a labor of love, resisting the urge to give him a card, downtown dumpster fires, Freemont, looters stay in jail, Camp Coonerty redux, arsonist arrested on skid row, the city council zooms along, and more! Happy anniversary baby, got you on my….mind….wait that’s another LRB song. Be safe out there!

The Weekly Dump 5.22.20

Fashionably late this week (but not LATE) and I’m blaming the coronavirus because it’s a useful excuse for everything these days. But the beat goes on and this week, we’ve got the latest restrictions from the county, 4 men arrested for local kidnapping and murder, the woman who refused to GTFO, the laziest thieves of the week, Watsonville man arrested for burglary downtown, a mugging in west Santa Cruz, hardly a majority opinion, SCPD’s high attrition rate, the death of Paradise, and more!

The Weekly Dump 5.15.20

It’s another cracking edition of the Weekly Dump! This week, we’re talking about the recent fatal shark attack in Aptos, another inmate dies in the county jail, getting out of jail free, you’ve been warned, Goss darn it, stolen or not stolen, try try again, ass cracks in Watsonville, UCSC likely to stay closed this fall, Santa Cruz county budget in the toilet, great plates for seniors, and more!

The Weekly Dump 5.8.20

Another week of trying to figure out what I can and can’t do! It’s time for the latest Weekly Dump, and we’re talking about stuff opening back up, felonious domestic assault for breakfast, San Jose carjacker busted after a high speed chase, wanted and released, swell landlords, turnstiler of the week, the gift that keeps on giving, skid row assault suspect arrested, teaching the chief how to wear a mask, Thelma gets arrested, not robbing banks, and we say goodbye to Rick the “bread guy”. Adios and happy trails dude.

The Weekly Dump 5.1.20

Happy May Day! It’s been a crazy and violent week here in Santa Cruz, especially if you consider people were supposed to be sheltering in place. Which seems to bring out the worst in some people. This week, the beaches are kind of open?, we’ve got a murder victim found in the Soquel hills, a couple of stabbings off Laurel and Coral streets, a porta potty dump truck ran over a homeless guy sleeping in San Lorenzo park, attempted murder isn’t much of a local news story, so much for protecting the victim, more mayhem on Coral street, double the trouble, hefty bail for local car thief, joy riding ends with a trip to jail, Felton and Aptos robbery suspects arrested, Grant Street Park jerk, the new “public safety”, turnstiler of the week, motorcyclist killed on Highway 9, Chaminade villa burns down, a functional city council again, district elections are coming, and the madness of The Wicker Man.
