The Weekly Dump 7.30.21

Killing Me Softly With His Song and Dance

This week, we had (at least) three people die under suspicious circumstances in the city of Santa Cruz. Sunday morning around 11AM, we had a young woman in her twenties die of a drug overdose in San Lorenzo park in the city’s officially sanctioned homeless drug camp. Twenty four hours later, at around 11AM on Monday, a male was found dead of a drug overdose in front of the Nickelodeon Theater in downtown. Then on Wednesday around 7PM, a body was found in the high grass along the San Lorenzo River next to the Soquel Avenue bridge in downtown Santa Cruz. Three bodies in 4 days, and these are just the ones I heard about. That’s why I say “at least”. Meanwhile, the mayor and the police chief put on some grandstanding, pandering media blitz about a couple dumbass kids leaving skidmarks on the street in front of city hall. After they arrested these morons, the Sheriff didn’t want them clogging up his half empty jail so they got the old penny bail.

So where’s the media blitz about people dying in Santa Cruz under suspicious circumstances at an alarming rate? Even COVID isn’t killing them as fast as our own brand of self serving, idiot compassion. Killing them with kindness. That’s not the story the mayor or the police chief want to hear or talk about. It doesn’t fit their narrative.

Brothers In Arms

Saturday morning around 4:30AM, Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 700 block of Seacliff Drive in Aptos after getting a call from a woman in distress, likely from some kind of domestic violence incident. Prior to the 911 call, CHP said they received calls from the same woman saying there might be a fight brewing between two brothers. Neighbors reported hearing a woman yell “he’s got a gun” before hearing gunshots fired. The woman in distress turned uncooperative, and deputies found shell casings at the scene but nobody was arrested.

He’s a Lumberjack and He’s Not OK

Last Friday night around 10PM, Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a vehicle on Felker Street. When they ran the driver’s name, it came back that he was wanted for a number of felony warrants out of Campbell. Deputies could visibly see a handgun from outside the car, and when the driver resisted arrest he was pulled out of the vehicle. They also found crystal meth in the car. The 26 year old male, who listed his occupation as “Lumberjack”, was arrested for a variety of charges, including being a felon in possession of a gun, resisting arrest, drug possession while armed, carrying a loaded gun in a public place, and possession of a stolen gun. Campbell Police actually were willing to pick this bum up, so he did get arrested and he’s currently sitting in county jail waiting for his ride back to Campbell.

Suspected Rapist Charged With Mayhem and More

Last Friday morning around 3:30AM, deputies from the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s department  responded to the 3000 block of Prather Lane, where they arrested a 35 year old male and charged him with assault with intent to commit mayhem and rape, false imprisonment, sexual battery, and he had outstanding warrants for burglary. His bail was set at $25K, but he’s currently being held without bail for the outstanding felony warrants. Outstanding.

Falling Into the Gap

Last Thursday around 9pm, SCPD responded to the 1200 block of Pacific Avenue, where they arrested a 37 year old male outside the Gap on Pacific Avenue for stalking, shoplifting, using a stolen credit card, and resisting arrest. They had to threaten to tase him to get him to comply. He was arrested and bail was set at $50K. He had also been arrested two days earlier for battery on the 100 block of Dakota. Cited and released. So he could go cause more trouble for everyone!

Attempted Santa Cruz Murder Suspect Arrested in Idaho

This past week, a man accused of attempted murder in the Santa Cruz area earlier this year was arrested in Twin Falls, Idaho. The 29 year old man wanted in connection with a shooting in January on the 2500 block of Soquel Drive, near Winkle Avenue. In that incident, four shots were fired from a vehicle and one victim was taken to the hospital. He faces charges in Twin Falls and will be extradited to face attempted murder and assault with deadly weapon charges in Santa Cruz.

You’ve Got Your Ball You’ve Got Your Chain

Saturday night around 7:30PM, SCPD responded to the 400 block of Ocean Street for some kind of vehicle accident. They arrested a 58 year old male and charged him with DUI causing injury, hit and run, reckless driving, vandalism, and carrying a concealed weapon. Last check he’s still in jail on a $25K bond.

Ungrateful Spread

A concert on July 18th by the band Grateful Shred at the Felton Music Hall is being linked to an outbreak of COVID-19 that left concertgoers, staff and even members of the band with positive cases. At least four people have tested positive for COVID that attended the show. Santa Cruz County is investigating the possibility of more cases at the Grateful Shred shows at Felton Music Hall and the Roaring Camp venue during the weekend of July 17th and 18th. The Felton Music Hall announced shows are canceled until Aug. 5th and as a result of the outbreak, anyone attending a future concert at the Felton Music Hall will be required to wear a mask and all employees must be vaccinated.

He Just Does Whatever He Wants

Friday afternoon around 3PM, SCPD was patrolling in San Lorenzo park when they called in a Honda that was parked in the park. The car was registered to Keith McMuffin. As the officer was preparing to ticket the car, guess who took off. SCPD blocked off both sides of the benchland so he was stuck in the middle of the camp. He wasn’t arrested, but he got a ticket about it. I only know this because Keith McKaren whined like a big baby all over social media about it. Cars are not allowed to drive in the benchlands. Keith McKaren knows this. He does it anyways. There have been instances of campers almost run over by cars in the benchlands. Last year it actually happened. But since SCPD doesn’t seem to want to enforce laws against certain people, we get stuff like this:

The same week, some dumbass drove their van through the park and ran into a boulder. They got cited and their van got towed. Yes, that appears to be a donut on top of the van. And maybe next time, take the sun shield off before you drive through the park and run into a boulder?

Ass Dismissed

This past week, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against the City of Santa Cruz by the Santa Cruz Homeless Grifters Union and Food Not Bombs. The dismissal requires each party to pay their own legal bills. Good. Stick Small Goodman with the bill! It was first filed back in December after the city planned on evicting the large drug bum camp squatting in San Lorenzo Park. What a waste of time and money, money that could have been spent actually helping the local homeless and not spent defending some grifty lawsuit by the grifter’s lawyer. And lives. Lives could have have been saved here instead of destroyed. We’ll never get an actual count of how many people died in this camp since December. Quite a few. More than a dozen probably.

The Weekly Seen

Anyone missing a portable hot tub? It’s in San Lorenzo park.

    Great Work!

  2. Another weekly gem, thanks!

Regarding the 23-year-old “lumberjack”, it takes at least 7 years to become proficient at that occupation. Additionally, a tweaker lumberjack would not live long.

Ben: I assume you are on top of recent local news. Seems that the police raided one of the major encampments. Apparently not a complete camp bust, but a roundup of some 33 folks with warrants, 21 of whom were bailed. The usual drugs and weapons, etc.
