Three People Shot in Watsonville After Neighborly Spat

Monday night around 7PM, three people were shot after what authorities called a dispute between neighbors on the 600 block of Rodriguez Street. All three were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition. The victims included two men and a teenage girl. Watsonville Police said it started as a fight between neighbors.

Keeping Him in Jail Would Help

Monday night, SCPD responded to the 300 block of Oceanview Avenue for a report of an attempted home invasion burglary. Police said the homeowner chased the suspect out of the kitchen before officers caught and arrested the suspect in the Jesse Street marsh, and apparently they are familiar with him for doing the same exact same thing multiple times before. Sound familiar? He was previously arrested for prowling in the same area and is a suspect in another case.

Watsonville Standoff Ends Peacefully

Tuesday afternoon, a 39 year old man barricaded himself inside a home on the 200 block of Center Street in Watsonville after refusing to surrender to police who were attempting to arrest him for a parole violation. The police standoff lasted nearly three hours before the parolee finally surrendered peacefully. According to Watsonville Police, officers spotted the man on the street and as they approached him, he ran inside a family member’s house and refused to come out. According to police, he was most recently placed on parole for felony hit-and-run and felony reckless driving with great bodily injury.

Gang Banging on the Westside

Sunday around 6PM, SCPD responded to the area around Woodrow and Errett Circle after reports came in about a possible gang confrontation. Apparently gunfire was exchanged in that area but no victims were found and nobody was arrested.

Local Shoplifters Nabbed in Stolen Car From Sacramento

Last week, two people arrested for shoplifting from a business on the 2000 block of Soquel Avenue were also busted for driving a car they apparently stole out of Sacramento, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. With the help of SCPD and their K9, deputies arrested the pair for possession of a stolen vehicle and shoplifting, as well as drug possession and having an open container while driving.

X Marks the Spot

Saturday around 4PM, SCPD responded to the 300 block of Pacific Avenue for a report of a robbery. They caught up to the suspect, who gave them a false name so he was arrested as “John Doe 2019”.

Plane Stolen From Watsonville Airport

Last week, someone apparently stole a small plane from the Watsonville airport. Federal investigators are looking for anyone involved in stealing a 2001 Cessna 172 SP model aircraft with white paint and blue trim. Watsonville Police said they have surveillance footage of the theft taking place. The FBI and FAA are now involved in trying to solve who stole the plane. I know bikes and cars are a daily local occurrence but now planes? I wonder if it was a repo?

Accident Clogs Up Highway One

Friday afternoon, Northbound lanes of Highway 1 near Rio Del Mar were briefly shut down after power lines fell onto the road. A nearby tree fell over onto the lines, causing them to sag across the highway. The wires then clotheslined a motorcyclist, who suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to a trauma center.

Plant Carnage at the Home Depot

Thursday morning around 1AM, Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Home Depot on 41st avenue after an employee at the store reported a transient was trashing the plants in the outside garden area. He apparently just started picking up the potted plants and tossing them around the parking lot. I guess he was arrested but he’s probably out of jail already, if he even went to jail.

  1. I will be at Grant Park, Sunday July 7th, 12-2 pm, with Dan Coughlin with petitions. Over by the BBQs.

  2. Thanks Gabrielle!

  3. I am still amazed by all the crap that goes on here. With zero consequences. I guess when I am no longer amazed I might have to change something. Thanks Santa Mierda for telling it like it is ! Happy 4th !!

  4. Paige, would you consider another run at Council member? I really feel the recall will be on, I have only encountered two people against it and my first petition is almost full. We will need folks to be on the ballot as the alternatives. PS, your milkweed seeds were planted again this year and are feeding my Monarchs!!!

  5. I just heard (from a county worker) that Carlos Palacios has instructed all county workers who live in the city to NOT sign the recall position. Does anyone know if this is true?

  6. Good podcast this week and thanks for the heads up that Dru Glover will be on Ashley’s KSCO program Wed. 2 p.m. This should be interesting. Just how fast can the guy talk and how much can he not say? I’m sure his supporters will pack the phone lines which is interesting in that they would never be caught calling KSCO. By the way, I stopped at a woman’s car today who was dumping out a container of what looked like urine on the street. I asked her politely not to dump liquids on the street. She scowled. I drove. I’m sure she’ll be more discrete next time. Can you imagine how filthy the Monterey Bay water off of Santa Cruz will be after the first rains of the season? Keep up the good work of letting us know what is going on.
