The Weekly Dump 5.7.21

Creeper Arrested Downtown After Home Invasion

Tuesday morning around 1:30AM, SCPD responded to the 300 block of Walnut Avenue after getting reports of a possible occupied home invasion. After they arrived, they arrested a 56 year old male and charged him with burglary and indecent exposure after illegal entry of an occupied dwelling. This is where I kind of wish the story included a big, angry dog. He still got arrested and he’s still sitting in jail on a $50K bond.

Turd on the Run

Wednesday morning around 10AM, SCPD responded to the 2200 block of Mission Street where they arrested a 45 year old male and charged him with domestic violence, false imprisonment, stealing a car, and violating a court order. He’s currently in county jail on a no bail hold.

In 2019, just two years ago, he was arrested for assault to commit rape and mayhem. Then just over a year later, he’s arrested in Monterey for domestic violence, disobeying a court order, and vandalism. Then 4 months later he does his latest damage. Do we have to wait until someone dies to actually keep this turd in jail?

Say It Don’t Spray it

Sunday morning around 1:30AM, reports came in about some kind of incident in downtown Santa Cruz involving a male pepper spraying a bunch of people near Laurel and Pacific. I don’t think anyone was arrested.

Oh Thank Heaven

Around 2:30AM on Sunday morning, SCPD responded to the 7-11 on Laurel and Chestnut Streets for a report of a fight inside the store. The witness reported seeing 2 males and a female beating up an employee. Initial reports were that a gun or taser was involved, possibly in an attempted robbery. No arrests were made.

Maybe He Was Salivating for a Jumbo Jack

Monday night around 11PM, SCPD responded to the Jack in the Box on Ocean Street for a report of a man on meth throwing stuff at cars. Witnesses reported he was foaming at the mouth and may not have been wearing any pants. SCPD arrived and determined the guy apparently wasn’t a threat and left.

The Gifts That Keep on Giving

Earlier this week, SCPD responded to the bum central area of Delaware and Natural Bridges, where they got reports that a female randomly attacked someone’s tent and threatened to stab that person with a needle. Yup, sounds believable! Witnesses described a bald woman with a white towel wrapped around her head. Later they arrested a female suspect and charged her with being under the influence of drugs and brandishing a deadly weapon. Last check she’s still in jail and her bail is set at $2500. I’m amazed they didn’t let her out for a penny. She’s well known around law enforcement, county probation, and the district attorney’s office. She’s been arrested for felony violation of parole 5 DIFFERENT TIMES since 2014. Here’s a peek at her local rap sheet:

This is what running her through the system over and over gets us. Criminal recidivists.

The Weekly Trick or Treat

Monday morning around 10:30AM, SCPD responded to the 100 block of Acadia Avenue for a reported assault and battery. They arrested a 23 year old male and charged him with 11 charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, battery, disobeying a court order, and of course, wait for it, FELONY PROBATION VIOLATIONS. See what happens when your Sheriff hands out Get Out of Jail free Cards like candy?

Wildfire Scorches Big Basin Near Boulder Creek

This past Sunday afternoon, fire crews from CalFire contained a small wildfire in the Santa Cruz mountains that began within the burn zone in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, according to Cal Fire. The fire was first reported around noon burning in an area that was decimated by last year’s CZU Lightning Complex fires. Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond and Santa Cruz fire departments aided in the fire fight.

Penny bail! Who needs a CCW permit when we’ve got penny bail for carrying a concealed weapon?

Not the Weekly Dump You Were Looking For

California is giving incarcerated individuals the opportunity to be released earlier if they have been on ‘good behavior,’ all in an effort to reduce the state’s prison population. Early release also applies to inmates who have been convicted repeated felonies and some violent offenders. Under court orders, California needs to reduce it’s saturated prisons, which once peaked at 160,000 in 2006. The new rules took into effect on May 1st, as part of Proposition 57, which was approved by voters in 2016.

The Latest COVID Numbers in Santa Cruz County

There have been 16,062 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Santa Cruz County, according to the Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency, with 116 currently active cases. 205 people have died, 492 have been hospitalized, 2 are currently hospitalized, and none are in the ICU. 15,741 people have recovered from the disease. A total of 134,028 people have tested negative. Santa Cruz County is in the orange tier of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Its adjusted case rate is at 2.2, and it needs to be at 1.9 or below to move up. It also has a 0.7% positivity rate, and that needs to be at 1.9% or below to move up.

Thank you for keeping us informed on all the BS County residents have to deal with.

  2. I’d appreciate if you who credited Homeless Outside in Santa Cruz for the photos so at least people who see me shooting these photos of them won’t think I’m the guy who does the weekly poop.

  3. re: “The Gifts That Keep on Giving”

The person who was positively identified as the one who threatened to stab someone with a syringe was taken to jail, and released a couple hours later with a smile and a promise to appear 🙂

Jail policy is to issue a handful of clean syringes to departing guests. I wonder if she got hers?

A handful of clean syringes? That is, more than one? I always wondered where the numerous discarded needles came from. Presumably not the “needle exchange” if it is honest; may be pestilential, but that would not increase the number. Not from pharmacies, since they are required to comply with certain policies. I had supposed that the needles came via traffickers.

      • Not for sure, but as I understand it, a few years ago they removed the requirement for a prescription to obtain syringes from pharmacies. As I understand it, anyone can walk in and buy boxes if to to 60 syringes… no questions asked.
As to whether that is still the case, not sure. But it certainly would explain all the 100s of discarded needles around town. I’ve personally have had to clean up at least a couple hundred.

Have we all gone crazy ?or, is it our city/county officials that are crazy?? I can’t decide. I can’t believe some of this ?! I know it’s true but come on!! Crazy town.

    • “Crazy, but that’s how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
      Maybe it’s not too late
      To learn how to love
      And forget how to hate
      Mental wounds not healing
      Life’s a bitter shame
I’m going off the rails on a crazy train” (Ozzy)

    • That’s easy. It’s the leadership that allow, heck, enable and encourage it, as well as the bleeding heart citizens who sit idly by and grumble silently to themselves instead of addressing said leadership to stop this insanity. That’s why we are seeing a mass exodus of ppl leaving California.

I just read that Monday is the deadline and the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 9 will be cleared of all the tents and people living in them, however I’m curious to know where are they going to go?

    • To quote Lennon and McCartney: “Here. There. And everywhere….”

    • Pat Kittle

Many will go back into the Greenbelt (Pogonip, etc.), where they
      — start fires,
      — trash the place with feces, used toilet paper, garbage, etc.,
      — run bicycle chop shops,
      — leave dirty needles as surprises for restoration volunteers,
      — cut into hillsides,
      — remove native plants & introduce non-natives,
      — drive out wildlife, and
      — attack visitors.

  6. Ah. Lack of ability to get a CCW as a law abiding citizen… Why I left California after over 40 years there. I hope Santa Cruz and California continues to do nothing about it’s problems… I shudder to think when the criminals spread to the rest of the country after incubation there.

  7. I’m familiar with the assault and battery event, so I can offer a little more information for readers who are interested while staying on topic. The 23 year old male person the SCPD arrested is a schizophrenic with paranoia who was born in Santa Cruz, grew up and went to school here. He started suffering from delusions that threaten and frighten him in late adolescence and he has become violent in response on infrequent occasions. He is on medication but it doesn’t always work, hence the prior arrests and probation. Of course, one occasion is too many, but he is not really responsible for his actions, he is mentally ill. It’s not likely jail time will make him realize the error of his ways, reform and become a solid citizen.

    • I’m sure the next victim of his will be comforted to know this… assuming they survive.

      • The good news is that none of his rights have ever been violated by a non consensual commitment to a state mental hospital. California wants to help victims. The California Victim Compensation Board (CalVCB) can help pay bills and expenses that result from violent crime. Victims of crime who have been injured or have been threatened with injury may be eligible for help. CalVCB Helpline: 1-800-777-9229 (Phone) | 1-866-902-8669

  8. I just drove by the Highway 1/Highway 9 intersection (Monday, 9:30 AM). There were seven or more law enforcement vehicles with lights flashing, apparently overseeing the removal of mountains of bum/drug addict filth. They had filled an enormous dumpster, yet barely made a dent in the overall mess. My guess is most of this stuff was originally owned by someone else until it was stolen by the poor “unhoused”.

One bum/asshole was standing nearby yelling at the police. How dare they infringe on his constitutional right to be a total pile of shit! Being a police officer in Santa Cruz must be a horrible, thankless job.
