The Weekly Dump 1.4.19

Now that the holidays are over, it’s back to business as usual in Santa Cruz. We’ve got a wacky new bunch of city council members to keep us entertained (along with stalwart Cynthia Mathews who must be counting the days). We’ve got a growing daily homeless campground greeting tourists on their arrival to welcome them. We’ve got no clue how to remove it so we just over tolerate it. Business as usual. Welcome to 2019! Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. And we get Sweety Muffin Top! Let the games begin.

Santa Cruz Man Tells The City Their Mierda Stinks

Thank you Don Hill for keeping it real.

On Wednesday, Don began posting bright yellow HAZMAT signs warning people about the abundance of human waste in his neighborhood near Miramar and West. He claims that for the past 2 months, his neighborhood has become a dumping ground for human waste and other bodily fluids. He and his neighbors claim this comes as a result of the city allowing RVs to illegally park along Miramar. He worked in the sanitation department for County Public Works and has worked with sewage and water sanitation for 35 years, and he’s worried about the impact excessive human waste could have on our local water systems. We broke it. We own it. Now we have to take matters into our hands because the city continues to fail us under Martin Bernal’s never ending watch.

Murder? What Murder?

So apparently a guy was arrested last week for Murder. In the city of Santa Cruz. Did anyone hear about? I didn’t hear anything about it. You’d think a murder arrest would make the news. Nope. Instead, we get a lot of meh. But it makes my news.

Victim Robbed at Knifepoint on Lower Ocean

Wednesday night around 6:30PM, reports came in about a possible stabbing and robbery on the 300 block of Ocean street. When SCPD arrived, they determined the victim had not been stabbed but he had been robbed with a knife of money and his phone. The suspect was described as a male last seen running towards the Boardwalk. SCPD sent multiple units, including the K9s, out to the scene to try to find the suspect. Last I heard he wasn’t found or arrested.

The County Shuffle in Action

Tuesday night, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies got a report of someone casing cars with a flashlight near Carriker Lane and Soquel Drive. When they arrived, they found a guy on probation who had burglary tools, disposable gloves, and a radio scanner. When they found “his” car parked nearby, it was found to be stolen. He was taken to jail for numerous charges. Has he been kicked out of jail yet? Probably.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Last Friday night around 9PM, the Watsonville PD Gang Enforcement Team found a person on “Post Release Community Supervision” from County Probation staying at the Motel 6 on Silver Leaf drive with his girlfriend and five year old child. A loaded semi-automatic handgun and bag of methamphetamine were found in a bag on the floor. He was arrested.

Searching For More Than Just Excuses

Saturday night around midnight, Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies were dealing with a man who was on searchable probation. After searching his vehicle, deputies found drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a weapon made from a chain and padlock. He was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. County Probation also placed a felony hold on him, whatever that means.

This Ain’t No Best Western

Tuesday night around 5:30PM, I heard a report about a home invasion burglary on the 500 block of Western Drive. The residents were out of town and when they came home, they noticed their lights were turned on and the door was locked from the inside (I’m guessing they mean it was a chain type lock from the inside). SCPD responded with a number of units. No word on anyone arrested.

Coast Guard Rescues Pair of Missing Kayakers

Monday night, a pair of missing female kayakers were found and rescued by the Coast Guard. They apparently left from Seacliff on Monday morning but failed to meet mutual friends who were supposed to meet them when they returned. They also left their phones behind.

Suspected Drunk Driver Killed Evading Police on Highway One

Monday night on New Years Eve, a suspected drunk driver was killed after he was hit by another car driving northbound on Highway 1 near Santa Cruz while running on the freeway trying to evade California Highway Patrol officers. A CHP patrol car stopped to check on what appeared to be a disabled vehicle. After the CHP officer noticed the man looked and appeared intoxicated, he ran across the southbound lanes, jumped over the median, and was hit by a car traveling in the northbound lanes, killing him instantly. CHP shut down all northbound traffic on Highway 1 for about two and a half hours while they investigated.

Suspected Drunk Crashes Into Tree on Highway One

Monday night around 6:30PM, CHP officers reported that a 58 year old man was driving south on Highway 1 when he drove through a concrete barrier and struck a tree. He fled the scene but was later found by CHP and arrested for suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.

Suspected Drunk Leads CHP on High Speed Chase on Highway 17

Tuesday morning around 2:30AM, CHP officers attempted to stop a car at Ocean and Plymouth streets. When they failed to stop, the 19 year old driver led officers on a high speed chase along Highway 17. After CHP officers deployed a spike strip at El Rancho Drive and blew out the tires, the driver continued up a dirt hill before colliding with multiple trees. The man was taken to the hospital for his injuries and was arrested for suspicion of DUI and reckless evading of a peace officer.

Oh Darling!

Sunday night around 8PM, I heard a report of a possible break-in at the Darling house on West Cliff. SCPD responded with multiple units and surrounded the house before making entry. I guess if you’re gonna break into an empty house to squat for a good night’s sleep, pick the one with the million dollar view.

Car Hits Pedestrian Near Coral Street

Sunday night around 6PM, I heard multiple reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident on Highway 9 near Coral and Limekiln streets. Details were sparse as usual but I know life flight was called in so that implies the injuries required treatment at a trauma center (so the must have been serious).

Criminals of Opportunity Seem to Love Santa Cruz County

Friday night, Scotts Valley police stopped a vehicle for failing to stay in their lane and striking a curb. Upon contact with the occupants of the vehicle, two of them were found to be on probation for various narcotics offenses. A search found a large quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, as well as, a digital scale and packaging material. The driver was found to be in possession of heroin and multiple counterfeit $100 bills. The driver and passenger were arrested for possession/transport of methamphetamine for sale, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of counterfeit currency, possession of burglary tools, violation of a court order, and having an outstanding warrant from another county.

Bad Mom Checks All the Boxes

Thursday night around 7PM, a San Jose woman was arrested for allegedly ramming her car into a patrol car in Santa Cruz County. The 35 year old woman was driving erratically near the Rio Del Mar Esplanade. When a ranger approached her car, she reportedly put her car in reverse and rammed into the ranger’s patrol car. The woman then led deputies on a short pursuit, before she crashed into a fence in the 300 block of Rio Del Mar Boulevard. The woman was also driving with her child in the car, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but was unhurt. To compound matters, Bad Mom also tried kicking and biting deputies while they tried to arrest her.A used, hypodermic syringe was found in the car, and the woman was found to have an active, felony warrant out of Santa Clara County and was not eligible to be released on her own recognizance. She was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail, with bail set at $15,000.

Dumb Kid With BB Gun Creates Panic at Capitola Mall

Talk about a lack of common sense. Friday afternoon, multiple people reported seeing a male walk into Capitola Mall carrying what appeared to be a rifle. Turns out it was actually a BB gun, but who has time to ask?

Santa Cruz Animal Shelter Burglarized on Christmas Day

I saw a story last week about the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter getting burglarized on Christmas Day. What kind of asshat does that? According to the report, someone broke in at 3AM and stole cash donations, a laptop, and Christmas cookies. They stole Christmas cookies from an animal shelter on Christmas Day. Somebody is going to hell over this.

Santa Cruz Bums Pick the Wrong Town to Steal From

Sunday night around 8:30PM Sunday, a security guard spotted a 25 year old male and a 23 year old female shoplifting inside a Rawley’s in Loomis. After the guard confronted the couple outside, the male pulled a knife and began to fight with the guard, but dropped the knife in the ensuing struggle. The male then told his bum girlfriend to pick up the knife and to stab the guy. Then a Good Samaritan bystander, who was in the parking lot, heard what occurred while he was sitting in his truck. The man had a permit to carry a concealed weapon. He pulled his gun at the woman and told her to drop the knife. She obeyed (beats getting shot) and he kept her away from the knife until deputies arrived. Good luck find someone like that here.

Truth in Numbers

My friend PJ sent me a link to take part and participate in the 2019 Point-in-Time Homeless Street Count and suggested I share it with my wide berth of readers in the hopes that maybe we’ll get some honest numbers here. I thought it was a fine idea. On the morning of Thursday, January 31st, 2019, volunteers will be asked to work with expert homeless guides recommended by service providers, to drive and/or walk all over assigned routes from approximately 4:30AM to 10AM. Volunteers are asked to have a car and a cell phone, be willing to help with transportation needs, and be able to walk approximately 2-3 miles if necessary. Here’s the link for more information and to sign up.

WOW what a way to start the new year !
Telling it like it is….? I like that.
Thank you Santa Mierda for once again keeping us posted about what happens here.
Murder and not a peep about it. Insanity at it’s best.

    • Thanks Paige! Apparently, it was “only” attempted murder. But with the other charges, it reads like a brutal domestic violence incident, which we’ve heard nothing about.

  2. Thanks Don! Boy lots of DUI cases!
