Drug Dealers With Ghost Guns Arrested

Last Saturday morning around 2:30AM, SCPD made a high risk stop on a vehicle after getting reports that someone brandished a firearm. During a search of the car, officers located and seized two “ghost” rifles, an unregistered and loaded 9mm handgun, more than an ounce of cocaine, a half ounce of methamphetamine, and scales and packaging for selling drugs. These guys are basically armed and dangerous drug dealers. The next day, SCPD served a related search warrant on a residence in San Mateo County. Given the risk associated with serving a warrant related to firearms and narcotics, the SCPD Tactical Team worked with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s SWAT to execute the warrant. During the residential search, officers recovered nearly 1 pound of cocaine and evidence of drug trafficking. What kind of moron goes around waving a gun at someone while driving with an ounce of coke and a half ounce of meth in their possession? These two obviously. Both the driver and passenger were residents of San Mateo County and were arrested. Each was charged with drug trafficking, possession of drugs while armed, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possession of an assault weapon, and possession of an undetectable firearm. The driver was also arrested for resisting arrest. Their bail was set at $300K each and last check both were still in jail.

Time to Sweep San Lorenzo Park Again

Last Saturday morning around 10AM, SCPD responded to the 100 block of Dakota Avenue (Bum Camp Santa Cruz!) where they arrested a male for felony robbery, making criminal threats, and flashing a weapon. He wasn’t in jail long. The same guy was arrested two days later. See the next story.

Lord of the Flies

Monday night around 10PM, SCPD responded to Kind Peoples on Ocean Street after a naked male wrapped in a sheet wandered into the business all bloody and told them he was beat up and robbed of his clothes and belongings by a gang of thugs in San Lorenzo Park. The victim knew at least one of his assailants, and apparently so did SCPD as they were very familiar with the guy.

The same guy had previously been arrested locally for murder. But apparently there wasn’t enough evidence to actually charge him. Now he apparently lives in the benchlands of San Lorenzo Park, lording over his little gang of misfits living in the park with him. Or at least he was. He was arrested on Tuesday and last check he’s still in jail. He’s been charged with robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and violating his probation. His bail was set at $50K but he’s currently on a no bail hold for the felony probation violation.

It’s What’s For Breakfast

Saturday morning around 10AM, SCPD responded to the 100 block of Broadway where they arrested a 30 year old male and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $25K but he’s longer in jail.

Here We Go Round in Circles

SCPD responded to the 100 block of Dakota, aka The San Lorenzo Park Bum Camp, where they arrested a 20 year old woman and charged her with assault with a deadly weapon. It sounds like the woman was involved in some kind of physical confrontation with another female transient in the benchlands, and both were injured in the fracas and required medical treatment. The scrap was reportedly over a guy. She was on probation, and she had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. And of course the failure to appear was for assault in Santa Cruz. She was on a no bail hold when she was arrested but last time I checked she’s no longer in jail.

Swing and a Miss

Last Saturday night around 10:30PM, SCPD responded to reports of a fight with weapons on the 800 block of Water Street at DJ’s Mini Mart. Apparently a former employee and a current employee were fighting with a bat and a knife. The suspect with the knife left the scene before SCPD arrived, so I’m guessing the knife guy was the former employee. They got a positive ID and a name from the guy who worked there. I haven’t seen him in jail.

Roadhouse Blues

Last Thursday around 11:00PM, SCPD responded to the 1400 block of Pacific Avenue after getting reports of a disturbance near Abbott Square. They ended up arresting a 30 year old bum named Dalton, who was known to them and was harassing some random guy on the street trying to fight with him. He was arrested for being drunk in public but he also had 7 other outstanding warrants for stuff like burglary, vandalism, resisting arrest, trespassing (you know, the usual penny bail stuff), so they took him to jail where he’s still sitting on a 10K bond now.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Tuesday morning around 4:30AM, SCPD were patrolling the Eastside when they noticed a male loitering behind the Walgreens on Soquel with a metal crowbar on the ground beside him. They stopped and questioned the 39 year old male, who was on probation for burglary and in possession of methamphetamine and burglary tools. Meth and burglary tools seem to always go hand in hand. The vagrant in question has multiple contacts from law enforcement for drugs, burglary, warrants, and battery. He went to jail again on charges of possession of meth, drug materials, and burglary tools. And the ever ubiquitous probation violations. County probation. It’s the gift that keeps on giving us guys like this.

Playing in Ocean Street Traffic

Monday around 6PM, SCPD responded to the area near Ocean and Soquel after getting reports about a guy running in traffic along Ocean Street swinging and throwing bottles at passing cars near Soquel. They watched this guy for about a half hour before they arrested him in the Togos parking lot. He had active outstanding warrants out of Palo Alto. he was apparently arrested but I didn’t see him in jail last time I checked.

Running Down a Dream

Monday afternoon around 3PM, SCPD was asked to shut down Highway 9 near Paradise Park after getting reports that 3 horses were running down Highway 9 headed towards the city of Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies responded to Felton after three horses escaped from their facility. With the help of CHP and Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Officers, deputies were able to safely capture two of the horses. Unfortunately, a third horse traveled onto the railroad tracks and suffered two broken legs. After consulting with a veterinarian and the horses owner, deputies euthanized the horse at the scene.

Do You Know the Way to Monterey?

Last Friday night around 6:30PM, SCPD responded to the 1000 block of Ocean Street where they arrested a 43 year old woman from Pacific Grove and charged her with vandalism and assault with a deadly weapon. Her bail was set at $25K and she bailed out of jail.

Ryan’s Seat is Getting Warmer

We’re still a year away but things are heating up in the race for the Santa Cruz Board of Supervisors 3rd District seat, currently held by outgoing incumbent Ryan Coonerty. This week, former santa Cruz Cruz mayor and current city council member Justin Cummings announced his plans to run for that seat. Previously, current city council member Shebreh Kalantari-Johnson announced she would also be running for the 3rd district seat. So now two of the current Santa Cuz city council members will be preoccupied with running for a race a year away. Terrific. I’m sure they’ll both be focused on the day to day crap of the city’s business.

As for the race itself, it’s interesting to see both candidates announce so soon. Each one represents a different “side” locally, although the lines in the sand are pretty blurry. Neither Shebreh or Justin can be considered particularly far left or right. They’re both somewhere around the middle, with Shebreh being the more moderate candidate and Justin being the more liberal candidate. But across the full spectrum of political ideology, they’re not that far apart. It will be interesting to watch this play out over the next 12 months. Endorsements are already flying out the gate for both. And endorsements usually lead to donations and support from the masses. In looking at both of their websites, he are some of the key early endorsements for both:

Justin: Fred Keely, Gary Patton, Sonja Brunner, Sandy Brown, Katherine Beiers

Shebreh: Donna Meyers, Sonja Brunner, Renee Golder, Martine Watkins, Cynthia Chase, Cynthia Mathews, Don Lane, David Terrazas, Mike Rotkin

Just a few random observations:

  • Nobody has Ryan’s official endorsement yet. But I expect him to endorse Shebreh.
  • I count 7 former Santa Cruz mayors endorsing Shebreh. Is that a record?
  • I was surprised that Sonja endorsed Justin, but then I noticed she also endorsed Shebreh. Maybe someone can explain how this works to her.
  • Justin is pulling from the expected progressive base but he’s missing quite a few key names.
  • Shebreh has the moderate “machine” support sewn up

The most interesting part of this is whether or not any other candidates will enter the race. I mean serious candidates, not Steve Pleich. Steve’s a nice guy, and he loves to run but he always fails miserably. Stay tuned!

SCPD vid doing the best they can with our city government. But it got to be hard on them when peeps are out before paperwork because all the sheep voted for bullshit get out of free cards

  2. YUP.

AND ditto from my comments recently

  3. Here let me write their speech-

“We will work within our community to build a strong and robust policy moving forward. With input from all stakeholders”

    Does this sound about right?

Lots of folks coming to Santa Cruz to do dirty deeds. We all know that one can pretty much do whatever crimes they want here !! Nothing happens and all of the out of towners know it. I do feel for the officers who arrest these guys only to have them out before the report is even written.
It will be interesting to see how the city council will handle things while two members want to be county supervisors. Will anything get done?? We will see.
Thanks for letting us know all about the Mierda of our community.

    • Precisely! The scumbag arrested at Togo’s had multiple warrants from Palo Alto. Chief Mills probably called them and Palo Alto said “Keep him, he’s a Santa Cruz kinda guy.” Mills likely response was “No problem, he’s ours now.”

  5. Just the Facts

What is particularly disturbing about the Branciforte Creek trash camp picture is that the Watershed Council’s office is literally right next door. Anyone look out the window lately? The “River Walk” has turned into an open-air sewer. Please go down and look at this sh*thole. It’s much worse in real life than the photo. It’s right behind the GoodTimes office building. Maybe they can do a “feel-good” story about the joy of vagrancy. And where is our local Sierra Club amidst this environmental tragedy? Still busy burying your collective heads in the sand? Watch out. Don’t get stuck by a needle.

      That reminds me…

Years ago, one of the major “conservation” publications got heat from a segment of its readership. Not sure if it was Sierra Club; probably not. Seems that the movers and shakers in the organization were hunters. So, “conservation” meant increasing the size of hunting grounds. Not much else. The portion of readership who thought “conservation” might mean flowers and birds (not to shoot at them) was largely set aside.

Now, if “conservation” means “increase property values for those who already have it,” then indeed this area is really big on conservation, bums or no bums.

  6. Just the Facts! I could not have said it better myself.
Of course, the “Feel Good” activists think everyone deserves to live here. Has anyone stepped in poop lately?
No directions needed. It’s all over this town. I am not heartless and realize this is a problem everywhere…but NOT this bad. SERIOUSLY! Most cities don’t tolerate it. Don’t you feel sorry for the Parks and Recreation workers? Public Works? You should. They handle shit and needles everyday. Why should we have to clean up after these people….a majority are (were) able bodied adults. Come to Santa Cruz where you can steal and do drugs. Yuck.
How about getting a job like the rest of us? lol

  7. Just the Facts

Good news! Mills is leaving for a job down south! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

  8. City Insider

Lol… The only people who Andy will have to deal with are the old farts getting too burnt by the swimming pools.
