Santa Cruz City Council Sets a New Low For Compassion

At this week’s city council meeting, the 2 members who are being accused of bullying and disrespectful behavior towards women working at city hall, along with fake feminist Sandy the Clown Brown and progressive bootlicker Justin Cummings, voted to just sweep their behavior under the virtual rug hoping to make it all go away somehow.

Just a pathetic, reprehensible response from the 4 self proclaimed “progressives” up there. I hope Susie quits and sues the city AND Krohn and Glover personally. She’s too good for the city.

Thank You Cynthia, Donna, Martine, and Susie

Thank you Cynthia Mathews, Donna Meyers, Martine Watkins, and Susie O’Hara. They are all brave, strong women and positive role models for other women. I support them and thank them for their efforts on Tuesday night. Please show your support by visiting this link (more explained there). Thanks!

Deputies Find Catatonic Person Covered in Feces in Aptos

Tuesday morning around 7AM, Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 4300 block of Opal Cliffs Drive in Aptos for a report of a disoriented subject with injuries. When they arrived, they found the subject was incapable of communication and was covered in feces. Medics responded and the person was transported to Dominican Hospital. They couldn’t determine if the subject was the victim of a crime as the subject remained catatonic. Nothing on the news about it. Were they the victim of a crime? Were they suffering from mental illness or dementia and possibly their family was looking for them? Who knows? We get nothing but crickets from the sheriff’s department and the local news media here.

Brookside Man Arrested for Sexual Assaults

Wednesday night around 10:30PM, a 30 year old man from Brookside was arrested by deputies from the Santa Cruz County sheriff’s department on the 11700 block of Highway 9 on a number of sexual assault charges, including attempted rape of an unconscious victim. Five felonies. I guess this kind of thing isn’t newsworthy since I saw no mention of it anywhere but in the official arrest log. Last check he’s still in jail on a $100K bond.

By The Time They Got to Woodstock’s

Sunday night around 11:30PM, SCPD recognized a 43 year old transient male wanted for robbery in the parking lot of Woodstock Pizza on River street in downtown Santa Cruz. After executing a high risk car stop, they found him in possession of drug paraphernalia, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine for sale. SCPD arrested him for probable cause in a robbery case and the added charges of possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

Vagrant Busted in Laurel Park

Monday night around 11:30PM, a 24 year old transient male from Berkeley was arrested after being found camping near Louden Nelson community center on the 300 block of Center Street. He was also charged with battery and had 2 outstanding bench warrants for his arrest. Last check he’s still in county jail. Berkeley bum now sits in our jail and will soon be out on our streets downtown. Now he’s our problem for the forseeable future.

Classical Gas

Monday night around 10:30PM, a person was arrested by Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies on the 1200 block of 17th Avenue for being drunk in public, resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer, and of course….a probation violation. Were they just cited and released?

No Place Like Home

Tuesday morning around 1:30AM, a 53 year old male was arrested by Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies at the County Health Services complex on Emeline Avenue for drug possession and drug paraphernalia. Maybe he was first in line for his free needles the next morning.

The Frequent Flyer of the Week

Last Saturday morning around 7:30AM, SCPD responded to a report of a prowler on the 200 block of Beach Street. When they arrived, they found someone who wanted to make a citizens arrest for prowling and vandalism, so they took it from there and took the 30 year old male suspect to jail. Arrested 14 times since 2016. He’s a frequent flyer on the County Shuffle.

The Runner Up!

Last Friday around 10:30AM, SCPD responded to the 1200 block of Ocean Street where they arrested a 31 year old man on multiple felony charges, including burglary, battery, and domestic violence. Arrested 9 times since 2013. He’s also a frequent flyer on the County Shuffle.

Motorcyclist Dies in Highway 1 Accident

Last Friday night around 8PM, a motorcyclist was killed in an accident on Highway 1 near Soquel Drive, according to CHP reports. One lane of southbound Highway 1 at Soquel Drive was shut down for about an hour while they investigated the cause of the accident.

Angry Man Gets a Timeout at County Jail

Wednesday morning around 3AM, SCPD responded to the 500 block of River street where they arrested a 39 year old male for apparently making credible death threats. Last check he was still in county jail on a $10K bond.

Rollin and Stolen

Tuesday night, SCPD was on patrol when an officer noticed a suspected stolen vehicle in the area of Poplar and Water streets. After confirming it stolen, the driver tried to drive away before SCPD conducted a high-risk traffic stop and took the driver into custody without incident.

SCPD Volunteers Help With Different Kind of Arrest

Wednesday along Pacific Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz, three SCPD volunteers help saved a man’s life after he went into cardiac arrest. The volunteers (Anna, Margie and Zelma) were on patrol when they noticed a man holding his hand over his chest. When they asked him if he was OK, he told them that he was short of breath and had chest pains. They kept him alert and engaged, called 911 for medical support, and kept people from crowding the scene. When Santa Cruz Fire and AMR arrived, the man was in cardiac arrest. Police said the firefighters and paramedics who responded were impressed with the volunteers professional communication skills and adherence to training. Thank you ladies!

  1. Mountain Resident

Catch and release must end… I’m fully woke to the concept that we don’t want debtor’s prisons, but there should at least be a mandatory community service component added to the probation conditions of our justice-involved, curbside residents. At the bare minimum, they should be made to clean up Camp Aloha and the numerous other locations Brent’s tents wind up. I am also a firm believer in mandatory drug treatment for all those with drug-related offenses, especially those involving opiates.

    • Agree with you however Meth is actually a much bigger problem than heroin. It’s easier and less expensive to make and buy.

  2. Great photo, Brent. Seriously.

  3. With all the goings on you would think getting recall signatures would be easy, but it is getting harder. Most people (85%) are not home, have signed, don’t want to, or don’t care. The time required to get a single signature is going up. The anti-recall press is quite active spreading false information, mostly centered on outside BIG MONEY which as far as I can tell is a near total falsehood (as if that even matters). It is a handful of part time paid people hired recently, but still the volunteers vastly outnumber those I would guess 10:1. The drive will have to pick up it’s effort in time spent since it is getting harder. Many people have strange hours and cannot be reached. Many people just don’t want to drive somewhere to sign. There are even people who are so thoroughly fed up with Santa Cruz politics they have given up all hope and even though they almost hate every single council member won’t sign as they regard it as hopeless. This is similar to those who occasionally attend council meetings to say after living here all their lives they are done and moving. I do not know how it will end, but so far the bickering seems to be getting worse and I think the broken council is making the city more divided. I saw no evidence any amount of conflict training is going to fix this crew. Replacing a few broken parts might help. It will go to the wire so if you want a voice, now is the time.

    • That’s really disheartening. How do ppl expect anything to change if they dont take action in doing so? They would just rather complain about it and expect everyone else to do something instead.
Meanwhile the few ppl who do speak up are taking the brunt of it from all the loud minority of oppostion.
Maybe all of us hard working folks should just leave SC in one big exodus and let the town implode on itself. Without us middlemen who do all the clean up and heavy lifting, all the few rich idealists would be forced to face all the disfunction…?

      • There is apparently hope in that the head of the EPA has written Newsom a letter demanding that he have a detailed plan to fix the water pollution from human excrement within 30 days. Any State plan, of course, would apply to Santa Cruz

      • The real bottom line here is (rhymes with comings) was covering the councils’ tracks when he suggested the divide in the city was dividing the council. NO SIR. As my dead father used to say, “that is back aswards”. The council is dividing the city. If they would have accepted the vote of the people on measure ‘M’, some people would have been disappointed, but that would have been that. However, the leftist parts of council decided they could override the will of the people. Same with cramming homeless into neighborhoods, and the same arrogance exists in dealing with the rest of the council and city employees. THEY are dividing the city more and more. I doubt it gets better no matter how many classes they attend. Dump the divisive trouble makers. I’ll take my chances we can do better.

    • It’s time for landlords to talk to tenants about the recall and try to garner their support and signatures. Most young voters and tenants are against bullying and particularly against women……and if presented correctly with the facts, the recall could get a real boost.

      • …Only if the students havnt already been brainwashed by the university staff into believing the homeless here are only victims of circumstance.
I’m so tired of UCSC students telling me I’m “mean” for not giving into the idea they should all get a free ride on behalf of the taxpayer. Dont even get me started on the criminal or druggie element and their entitlement in this town.

  4. Regarding our lovely “frequent flyers”, I think it would be very cool if someone created a “Top 10” (or “Top 20”) poster of Santa Cruz’s best serial recidivists. Use their mugshots and rap sheets. Print them and post them all over town. Get grant funding and mail (or email) the poster to every registered voter in the city. We are under no obligation to take this relentless shit. I would donate some bucks to this effort.

    • “Wall of shame” is an excellent idea! Kind of like when a registered pedophile has to notify all neighbors when moving into the neighborhood.
However, knowing SC, some rights lawyer would probably find a way to call it “harrassment” or some BS. Even though all of that IS public information. I would gladly wallpaper the town daily if it meant change.

  5. Greenie…and Spooky, a wall of shame is a great idea. I bet there is some rule against it. Too bad. When I saw the opening photo….the guy in the purple hat, I could not help but wonder if there is some poor soul somewhere who gasped, “Dad!!”
I am also sorry to learn the petitions are not enough yet. Do the UCSC students vote by their address or by being students? I know someone who rents to students but the place is not in the city limits.
Thx again for all your efforts. Must be a thankless task. Just like I can’t imagine voluntarily attending a city council meeting as simply an interested community member.

    • I suspect most of them vote twice:. Via absentee in their home district, then here locally. Was very easy to do when I was a student. I only sent in my absentee though. I’d love for someone to prove me wrong, just be sure to cc the results to the election commission ?

  6. Brookside? Did you mean Brookdale?

  7. u would think a city council with a majority of women would mean proritizing public safety, and no bullying/ harassing in the workplace. i guess sandy brown has to be the queen enabler.

thats what we women are best at lol. i had a riot girl band in the 90s but had to move here to remember why we screamed in the 90s lol. i guess u get tired of screaming, and then it looks fun again?
30 min yoga class or scream at the city council?? yoga is too tame…

how do we get a criminology dept up at ucsc? where are dr brennan and sealy booth when u need them?!?! we used to watch csi and do shots every time there was a body dump- is that why there are so many alcoholics here?! 😀

  8. Can’t for the life of me understand why anyone even goes to council meetings. Since nothing changes.
Sad really, to see SCruz in a downward spiral.
